VHS Tapes in Danger!

WOW! Lately we have been seeing more and more VHS tapes with damage, fading, aging and diminishing quality. Folks, these kinds of tapes are just nearing the end of their true lifespan. It is so important to get these valuable and irreplaceable memories transferred to high-quality DVD. VHS tapes brought in for transfer are the most typical to show damage and deterioration, however Hi-8, Video8, and Digital8 tapes are deteriorating at an alarming rate as well. Our expert technicians can fix, repair and re-splice tapes in many instances, however don’t wait until your tapes are completely unplayable to the point of never being able to be transferred to DVD.

Besides transfer to DVD, the second best preservation method of today is to store the tapes in a dry, controlled environment, with minimal light. We have seen too many tapes lost due to mold or other conditions brought about due to poor storage conditions, so double check to make sure your tapes are safe, and convert your memories to DVD in order to fully preserve and digitize the data.
Your memories are too important. Will they be gone before you can preserve them?

Tips to Choosing a Background for your Outdoor Photos

Creating the perfect picture for your photo album or picture book begins with choosing a proper background.

Since spring is here and summer is right around the corner, we thought it would be beneficial to discuss some outdoor photo background tips…

Tip#1: If the subject of the photo is busy with a variety of colors or designs, stick to a solid background to neutralize and not take away from the image. Ideas include a park with greenery from trees and grass alone, or a brick wall with one color throughout.

Tip #2: Consider the complexion of the people or the color of the subject in the photo. Contrasting backgrounds should be used so the subjects do not appear washed out. Lighter subjects will stand out against darker backgrounds like a stone wall or bright blue sky. Darker subjects look great on lighter toned backgrounds like sandy dunes or a white picket fence.

Tip #3: Be sure the lighting is positioned correctly for the background. Light should shine down on the subject at a front angle, preferably about 45 degrees. This is difficult to master for outside photos but taking pictures in the morning or early evening will give you the best chance of capturing the sun at an angle.

Tip #4: To avoid squinty eyes locate shaded background areas. The softer light will also prevent shadows to form.

Tip#5: Many outdoor photos are taken in public locations where passersby might be around. To avoid having unwanted images in your photo, shoot at less busy times or use a closer range capturing only the subjects that you would like.

Hopefully these tips will help you create some wonderful photographs this summer! Be sure to check back with us once you have a collection together so we can design a professional photo book for you to cherish your memories forever.

What to Do With All Your Photographs?

Photos are more than a physical piece of paper; they represent memories and images from your life. Whether it is a scenic picture of the garden you built or a family photograph from the last reunion, they create a means to remember and cherish the past. It is important to have the photos last forever!

What can you do with all your shoe boxes full of pictures and old deteriorating photo albums to ensure they last forever? Scanning is the answer. Photo scanning puts your images into a digital format to preserve and protect them against fading, color distortion, and damage from water, fire, and many other factors. Scanning also allows the quality and color to be restored as well as edits to be made to red eye, contrast, cropping, and more.

Once the photos are scanned, the possibilities are endless!

• Create a Scrapbook or a professional photo book displaying a trip you took, the growth and development of your children, or the memories you share with a loved one. Just about any special time experienced by you or your friends and family can be highlighted in a photo book format.
• Have a family tree or family history book designed including photos of your family and your ancestors. Frame the final product and give it as gifts to family members.
• Design a personalized photo calendar with a different picture for each month. Keep this in your own office or gift it to family and friends.
• Create unique photo products like greeting cards, invitations, coffee mugs, puzzles, pillow cases, and more.
• Have the pictures sized to fit a special frame you found. Hang them or sit them on an end table as a decoration in your home.
• Save the photos to digital photo books or a photo album DVD for a picture slide show at a special event.
• Upload the scanned and restored images to an online photo platform for storage and distribution. You can then easily share the photos with others through email.

As you can see, scanning your photos opens up a variety of options. It allows your images to last forever so you can enjoy and remember your life experiences with the ones you love!
